Tigers Split Season Opener At Ohio Wesleyan

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg University women's tennis team opened up their season on Saturday afternoon traveling to Ohio Wesleyan University for their first of four doubleheader matches on the season. The Tigers split with the Battling Bishops, taking the first match with a 5-4 decision, before moving on and falling by a final 5-3 in the second match of the day.

The doubles pairing of Paige Meyers and Olivia Norbut took their first match of the day by way of an 8-5 decision. The Wittenberg duo of Aliza Johnson and Kelsey Smith finished 2-0 on the day, taking their first doubles match of the season 8-5. The Tiger pairing came back in match two, securing their second victory of the day, 8-3. Wittenberg switched up the pairings in match two with Kathleen McGuff and Norbut combining to secure the 8-1 win over the Bishops.

Smith was the only Tiger to finish 2-0 on the singles court, taking her matches (6-1, 6-2) and (6-0, 6-1). McGuff and Johnson each finished the afternoon 1-1, as they saw victory in their first matches of the season.
