Wittenberg Falls To Wilkes Colonels 8-1

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Wittenberg women's tennis team fought hard but fell to Wilkes College on Wednesday over Spring Break, dropping an 8-1 decision to fall to 2-3 on the season.

The Tigers' win came in doubles competition as freshman Morgan McDermott (Wheeling, W.Va./The Linsley School) and sophomore Meghan Depew (Downingtown, Pa./West) teamed up for a tight 9-8 victory, taking a tiebreaker by a score of 9-7.

In singles action, senior Kristin Wright (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) gave her opponent a battle at No. 1, falling by scores of 6-4 and 6-0, while McDermott dropped the No. 2 matchup 6-1, 6-3 and Depew fell by scores of 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

Wilkes improved to 5-0 on the season with the win.

The Tigers continue their Spring Break trip with an early match tomorrow, March 7, taking on Susquehanna at 8:30 a.m.
