Tigers Open 2011-12 Season With 9-0 Win Over Wilmington

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers kicked off the 2011-12 season with a 9-0 sweep of visiting Wilmington.

The Tigers were never challenged in the match, reeling off three doubles wins while dropping just two games. In singles, five of the six Wittenberg players recorded at least one 6-0 set, and the most games any Quaker player won was three.

Sophomore Leah Ann Miller (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) led the way with wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, where she paired with senior Anne Beauch (North Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson). Senior Alex Cummins (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) also was a double-winner, in singles at the No. 2 position and teaming with senior Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) for a win at No. 2 doubles.

Rounding things out, freshman Georgia Bennett (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) was victorious at No. 3 singles, senior Jackie Stevens (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) won at No. 4 singles, junior Kristin Wright (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) swept the No. 5 singles position, and junior Kacia Nolan (Indianapolis, Ind./Speedway) capped it with a big win at No. 6 singles. Stevens added a doubles win at No. 3, pairing with sophomore Jessica Coggins (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva).
