HILTON HEAD, SC — The Wittenberg women's tennis team kicked off the Spring Break portion of the 2011-12 schedule with a 7-2 victory over Assumption. The win moved the Tigers to 2-4 on the season, heading into a busy week filled with matches around Hilton Head, SC.
Wittenberg started out by taking two of the three doubles matches before taking five of the six singles matches.
Freshman Georgia Bennett (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe)was a double-winner for the Tigers, taking a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles after teaming with senior Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) for an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles. Stewart also was a double-winner after winning comfortably at No. 4 singles.
Junior Kacia Nolan (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) was the Tigers' other double-winner in the match. She claimed a three-set win at No. 5 singles after pairing with senior Alex Cummins (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) at No. 3 doubles for an 8-1 triumph. Senior Anne Beauch (North Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) added a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing at No. 6 singles, and junior Kristin Wright (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) rounded things out with a tiebreaker win at No. 3 singles.
