Tigers Remain Unbeaten With Wins Over Catholic And Seton Hill

HILTON HEAD, SC — The Wittenberg Tigers remained unbeaten on the 2010-11 season, pulling off a pair of 7-2 victories over Catholic University and Seton Hill University before rain stopped their match against Malone University.

The match against Malone was suspended with the Tigers leading 4-2, with three singles matches still in progress. Head Coach Justin Stuckey said that he is working on scheduling a time and place to finish the match.

The wins over Catholic and Seton Hill moved the Tigers to a perfect 9-0.

In the win over Catholic, a doubles sweep got the momentum going in the right direction. The key was at the No. 1 position, where juniors Anne Beauch (North Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) and Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) won a tiebreaker.

The Tigers just missed a clean sweep in the match, winning four of the six singles matches. Catholic's wins — at No. 3 and No. 6 — were both in third-set tiebreakers. Stewart was one of four double-winners for Wittenberg, including freshman Leah Ann Miller (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing at No. 1 singles and an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles with freshman Emma Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./Vigo).

Against Seton Hill, the Tigers picked up three default wins while employing a line-up of primarily reserves. Junior Kacia Nolan (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) and freshman Sarah Ziska (Bay Village, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) were both double-winners, as Nolan was victorious at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles and Ziska claimed wins at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles.
