Doubles Sweep Dooms Tigers In Loss To Cedarville

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers opened the road portion of the 2009-10 schedule with a 7-2 loss to neighboring Cedarville University.

A doubles sweep started the ball rolling in the right direction for the Yellow Jackets. The key point came at No. 2 doubles, where Wittenberg junior Jayne Miely (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and sophomore Jackie Stevens (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) lost a hard-fought 9-8 decision in a tiebreaker.

Miely came up just short in singles as well, as she lost a second set tiebreaker at the No. 1 position. Sophomore Alex Cummins (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) finally got the Tigers on the board with a win at No. 5 singles, and sophomore Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) rounded things out with a win at No. 6 singles.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, at St. Joseph's College in Indiana. Wittenberg will play the host team and Calumet College.
