Tigers Top Ohio Wesleyan To Finish Fifth In NCAC Championship Tournament

GRANVILLE, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers finished the 2009-10 season on a high note, earning fifth place in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament with a 5-2 victory over Ohio Wesleyan. 

The win capped the Tigers' season at 12-9 overall after they finished second in the NCAC West Division behind nationally ranked Denison. The Battling Bishops lost for the second time this year to Wittenberg to end up 6-11 overall.

The Tigers got off to a solid start with wins on two of the three doubles courts. Four of the six singles matches were completed, with the Tigers taking three of them.

Wittenberg's lone double-winner on the day was sophomore Jackie Stevens (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson), who teamed with junior Jayne Miely (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) at No. 2 doubles and then was a 6-3, 6-4 victor at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) and seniorSean Delaney (Powell, Ohio/Worthington Christian) were victorious at No. 3 doubles, senior Emily Nash (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) won at No. 2 singles and junior Rachel Bundy (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) rounded things out with a straight sets victory at No. 6 singles.
