Tigers Take Down NCAC Rival Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers ventured out of the North Coast Athletic Conference West Division to defeat rival Wooster by a final count of 8-1. 

The win moved the Tigers 8-5 on the 2009-10 season, while Wooster dropped to 3-7. It was the first of four matches in eight days for Wittenberg, starting with a home date against Capital on Sunday, March. 28.

Against Wooster, the Tigers got off to a strong start with a doubles sweep, keyed by a tiebreaker victory at the No. 3 flight. Sophomore Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) teamed up with senior Sean Delaney () to pull out a 9-8 victory thanks to a 7-4 win in the tiebreaker.

No such theatrics were needed in singles, although the Tigers did drop one match. From the second through the sixth courts, the Tigers did not drop a set, getting wins from junior Jayne Miely (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) at No. 2, senior Emily Nash (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) at No. 3, sophomore Alexandra Cummins (Lebanon, Ohio/New Dixie) at No. 4, sophomore Jackie Stevens (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) at No. 5 and junior Rachel Bundy (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover)at No. 6.

Miely, Stevens, Nash and Stewart were all double-winners on the day.
