Wittenberg Squeaks Past NCAC Rival Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio - For the second time in the 2007-08 season, the Wittenberg Tigers pulled out a 5-4 win over North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Ohio Wesleyan.

The win moved the Tigers to 8-5 overall and 3-4 in the NCAC, while Ohio Wesleyan fell to 4-10 overall and 1-6 in the conference. Wittenberg wraps up the regular season with a match at winless Wooster on Saturday.

The Tigers' only double winner on this day was freshmanElizabeth Micheletti (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West), who won comfortably at No. 4 singles and then teamed with junior Allison Earhart (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown) to take an 8-4 decision at No. 2 doubles.

That was Wittenberg's only singles point, putting the pressure on the singles players, but freshman Jayne Miely (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) won at No. 2, junior Kat Sundstrom (Trafalgar, Ind./North Central) won at No. 3 and sophomore Emily Nash (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) won at No. 5. Nash provided the winning point in relatively dramatic fashion as she captured a pair of tiebreakers to win in straight sets.
