Wooster, OH- Wittenberg men's and women's swimming travelled to Wooster, Ohio to take on fellow NCAC schools in a tri-meet. The Tigers competed against the Fighting Scots from the College of Wooster and Yeomen and Yeowomen of Oberlin. Wittenberg fought a tough battle but the men fell to the College of Wooster with a score of 198-66 and Oberlin with a score of 144-98. The ladies were able to gain 109 points against Oberlin but fell short with a score of 136-109, and a fierce Wooster team defeated the ladies with a score of 200-61.
The Women: The Tigers finished with 3 first place finishes, 4 second place finishes, 1 third, fourth and fifth place finishes. Marita Banta-Long took home another first place finish in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:23.56 and first in the 100 yard butterfly at 1:03.19. Banta-Long later would grab a second place finish in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:20.35. Also picking up a first place finish was Bridget Logan in the 100 yard freestyle and time of 57.24. Abby Dunasky grabbed a second place finish in the women's 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:40.76. Bridget Logan placed third for the Tigers in the women's 200 yard freestyle, finishing at 2:08.92, followed by Claire Bergefurd in fifth place and a time of 2:11.15. Logan also grabbed a second place finish in the women's 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.22. Sophia Spriggs finished fifth for Wittenberg in the 200 yard backstroke, finishing at 2:25.08. Wittenberg placed second in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:01.93 and composed of Logan, Bergefurd, Meggie Suffoletta, and Banta-Long.
The Men: The men finished with 3 first place finishes, 2 second place finishes, 3 third place finishes, 1 fourth place finish, and 2 fifth place finishes. Tigers took first place in the men's 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.81 from Sam Dudley. Dudley also finished third in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.90. Brad Barren picked up a first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.63 and first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 49.54. Barren came back later to finish second for Wittenberg in the 100 yard butterfly at 53.59. Drew Suffoletta placed fifth for the Tigers in the men's 200 yard freestyle and a time of 1:58.34. Anthony Petruzzi landed in third in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:10.81, fourth for the men in the 100 yard backstroke at 1:01.98, and fifth for the 200 yard backstroke at 2:16.66. Nick Angeli grabbed a third place finish in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing at 5:24.78. The men ended the meet with Barren, Suffoletta, Angeli, and Dudley grabbing a second place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:29.52.
Up Next: The Tigers will be home for their next meet against Anderson University. Wittenberg will be back in the pool on Saturday, January 18th at 1:00 PM.
