Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University's women's swimming and diving team recently earned a 2012 College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team award, while Ward McNulty, class of 2013 from New Trier, Ill., and Sarah Wilson, class of 2014 from Centennial, Colo., have earned CSCAA Scholar All-America awards.

The team award annually honors teams that display excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative team grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. Wittenberg posted a sterling 3.23 cumulative team GPA during the spring 2012 semester to become one of 124 NCAA Division III teams to earn the award.

The Scholar All-America awards are given to student-athletes who earn at least a 3.5 GPA and at least provisionally qualify for an NCAA championship meet. McNulty and Wilson earned honorable mention All-America honors after finishing 13th in the 200-yard medley relay with teammates Molly Gustafson, class of 2014 from West Hartford, Conn., and Keaton Hannon, class of 2012 from Peachtree City, Ga., at the NCAA Division III Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., on March 21.

"I am so proud of the women's team and the individuals who earned academic honors this season," said Head Coach Natalie Koukis. "They worked extremely hard to prove themselves in the classroom and in the pool, and these honors show that it is possible to be successful and continue to set high expectations in both areas."

As a team, Wittenberg's women's finished the 2011-12 season with a sparkling 9-2 dual meet record, losing only to Kenyon and Denison, two of the top three teams in the nation. The Tigers placed fifth out of nine teams in the grueling North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship meet on Feb. 18.

Preparations for the 2012-13 season are already underway, with team members already pointing toward an annual relay meet hosted by Kenyon and Denison on Oct. 20. The dual meet season opens Oct. 27 with a road trip to NCAC rival Wooster.
