Wittenberg Pool Crew Takes Two From Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio — In the final dual meet of the 2011 calendar year, Wittenberg's swimming and diving teams took home two wins at Oberlin. The men put together a 132-107 win while the women were comfortable 152-82 winners.

The win kept the women perfect at 7-0 in dual meets, and the men improved to 5-2. The women won 10 of their 13 events, and the men took eight of 13.

Freshman AJ Burt (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) continued to power through his first half with a first-place finish in the 1000 freestyle on a time of 10:20.68, seven seconds ahead of the nearest competitor. He also took first in the 400 individual medley and the 500 free.

Junior JB Easley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seven Hills) scored nine points for the Tigers with a win in the 200 freestyle, followed by a close victory for freshman James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) in the 200 butterfly. Dumstorf went on to win the 200 breaststroke, while Easley went on to swim the fastest leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay.

Easley was joined on the relay team by junior Brendan Eggers (Rye, NY/Rye), sophomore Will London (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) and freshman Jared Crum (Galveston, Ind./Lewis Cass).

The women's meet started in solid fashion with a win in the 200 medley relay provided by sophomore Sarah Wilson (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe), sophomore Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard), senior Keaton Hannon (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh) and junior Ward McNulty (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier).

Sophomore Courtney Carani (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) took first in the 1000 freestyle, and McNulty followed with a win in the 50 freestyle. Junior Jane Tsivitse (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) kept the momentum with a nine-second win in the 400 individual medley.

Hannon picked up a second win in the 200 butterfly before Tsivitse matched with her second win in the 100 freestyle, and Wilson jumped in with a 200 backstroke victory.

Junior Claire Shannon (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) won the 500 freestyle and Gustafson won the 200 breaststroke, setting the plate for the 200 freestyle relay team to close the meet with a win. Freshman Logan Griffith (Pickerington, Ohio/North), freshman Allie Fisher (Tinley, Ill./Victor J. Andrew), McNulty and Tsivitse all contributed to the final relay.

The Tigers finish up the first half with a trip to DePauw for the swimmers and Rose-Hulman for the divers in the DePauw/Rose-Hulman Invitational from Dec. 2 to Dec. 3.
