Tigers Pull Off Double-Victory Over Wooster

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Just 16 hours after defeating one North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival in Ohio Wesleyan, the Wittenberg Tigers opened the home portion of the 2011-12 schedule with a win over another.

The Tigers comfortably topped visiting Wooster by scores of 151-88 on the men's side and 138-93 on the women's. Both Wittenberg teams are now 2-0 on the young season.

The biggest individual winner was junior JB Easley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seven Hills), who placed first in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events before swimming a strong opening leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Freshman AJ Burt (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) was also a double-winner individually as he touched the wall first in the 200-yard Individual Medley and 500-yard freestyle, as was freshman James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard breaststroke. Freshman Ed Young (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) added a first-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

Junior Claire Shannon (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) was the Tigers' lone double-winner in the pool on the women's side as she finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle. Junior Katie Reed (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.

Junior Ward McNulty (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier) added a win in the 50-yard freestyle, senior Rachel Lee (Hickory, NC/Hickory) was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke and sophomore Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard). In addition, the Tigers got big points from junior Jane Tsivitse (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) with a first-place finish in the 200-yard Individual Medley and a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.

The Tigers return to action in the HPER Center Natatorium against DePauw at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5.
