Busy Weekend Starts With Loses To Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio — The Wittenberg swimming and diving teams opened a busy weekend at Ohio Northern on Friday night, but came away with a pair of losses. The men fell to 5-2 on the dual meet season after a 143-100 loss to the Polar Bears, while the women dropped a 158-85 decision and fell to 4-3.

To start the women off, sophomore Ward McNulty (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier) topped the field in the 50 free with a time of 25.70. Junior Megan Tassone (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) followed up with a 2:18.55 in the 200 individual medley, good for first place, before freshman Sarah Wilson (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe) swam to victory in the 100 back. Freshman Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) finished off the women's wins with a time of 1:08.47 in the 100 breaststroke.

Senior Chris Culkin (Novi, Mich./Northville) scored the men's first win in the 1000 free with a time of 10:05.21, nearly 27 seconds ahead of the first ONU competitor, and went on to add a victory in the 500 free. Junior Teddy Hutchinson (Sudbury, Mass./Sudbury-Lincoln Regional) turned in a first-place finish later in the 100 backstroke to round out the men's wins.

The Tigers return to Springfield tonight to host a dual meet tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 19, in the HPER Center Natatorium, against Oberlin and Baldwin-Wallace at 3 p.m.
