2005 NCAC Championships Day 2 Report

At the conclusion of the second day of the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships the Tigers remain in the mix for a top four finish on both the men's and women's side. The Tiger men slipped to sixth place after standing in fourth after Day 1, but they are just 18 points behind fourth-place Wooster heading into the final day. The night was highlighted by a third place finish in the 100 backstroke by junior Betany Yeakley (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington), her first-ever All-NCAC finish and the first one for a Tiger swimmer in the 2005 championships. Her time was good for an NCAA B Cut, the second of her career. In addition, junior Becca Searcy (Shelbyville, Ky./Shelby County) earned a fourth place finish for the second straight night, this time in the 400 Individual Medley. And sophomoreJen Mulligan (Cheyney, Pa./Delaware Valley Friends)earned an NCAA B Cut as she placed sixth in the 100 back.

For the men, the best finish was turned in by sophomore Cody Nicely (Knoxville, Tenn./Bearden), who finished third in the 1-meter diving event to earn All-NCAC honors for a second straight year. He was the defending champion in the event. For a second straight night, the best swimming performance was turned in by freshmanRyan Schramm (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon), who finished 10th in the 400 IM. Both the men and women had solid finishes in the day's two relay events. The women were fifth in one and fourth in the other, while the men were fifth and sixth.

Preliminary competition will comtinue tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio. Saturday's awards ceremony is slated for 6 p.m.
