Springfield, OH -- The Wittenberg Tigers were unable to celebrate their home opener, falling 1-0 to the Otterbein Cardinals. It was a tough back and forth battle as both teams battled for the 50/50 balls in the air. Senior defender Maria Miller held the Cardinals to the outside of the field, keeping them from moving in on the penalty box. Otterbein was able to keep the Tigers on their side of the field, with Tiger goalkeeper senior Emma Schewe saving six of seven shots on goal. The Tigers were able to make it through the Cardinal defense, tallying four total shots on goal.

The Cardinals were unable to reach the net until the 66th minute which changed the pace of the game. The Tigers began to fall back and rely on long balls to stretch the field. Wittenberg was able to hold off Otterbein for the rest of the evening.

The Tigers will be back on the field at Mount St. Joseph University on September 14 at 7:30 p.m.
