Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University women’s soccer team has once again been recognized for its outstanding collective work in the classroom with a 2015 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award.

The Tigers posted a 3.13 team grade point average (GPA) during the 2014-15 school year to earn the award for the 14th time since the award was created in 1996 and the 10th time in the past 12 years. The NSCAA program honors men’s and women’s soccer teams that display excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale.

“I am very proud that our student-athletes are so committed to our program’s philosophy of a commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the field,” said Tigers’ Head Coach Matt Fannon. “Their efforts to succeed both academically and athletically are noticeable day after day as we strive to meet our goals as a team.”

The Tigers posted records of 8-8-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) in the 2014 season. The Tigers finished fourth in the final NCAC standings and advanced to the league tournament before losing 2-0 to eventual champion Kenyon in the semifinal round.

Through the first three weeks of the 2015 season, Wittenberg has posted a 4-3-1 overall record, with all three losses coming against teams ranked in the top 25 nationally. The Tigers open the NCAC portion of the 2015 schedule with a road trip to Kenyon on Saturday, Sept. 26.
