Wittenberg Takes Care Of Business At Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers took another important step forward in the hunt for a second straight North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season title with a 3-1 victory over homestanding Oberlin.

The Tigers improved to 9-2-4 with their fourth straight victory. Just as importantly, Wittenberg is now 4-1 after dropping its NCAC opener at home in overtime to Ohio Wesleyan on Oct. 1. The Yeowomen dropped to 3-10-1 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

Wittenberg jumped out to a 2-0 lead by halftime on goals by junior forward Emily Murray (Petoskey, Mich./Petoskey) and sophomore defender Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy). The assists were from junior forward Kelly Clark (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) on Murray's goal at the 10:09 mark and senior midfielder Suzanne Medwid (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) at the 28:12 mark.

After Oberlin closed the gap less than three minutes into the second half, the Tigers finished things off with a unassisted goal from freshman forward Taylor Goss (Sandy Spring, Md./Friends School) in the 85th minute.

Wittenberg took 13 more shots than Oberlin in the game, but Oberlin came up with 10 saves - nine by the goalkeeper and one credited to the team. The Tigers return to action at Edwards-Maurer Field at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, against Earlham.
