Wittenberg Tops Kenyon In Key NCAC Game

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Heading into the heart of the conference slate, the Wittenberg Tigers played one of their most complete matches of the season in a 4-1 victory over the Kenyon Ladies. Wittenberg scored its highest single game goal total on the season with their offensive outburst, in which the opportunistic Tigers capitalized on their chances to amass the strong showing.

After a slow start, the second wave of Tigers onto the pitch provided a big spark to the offense, finally validated by a sensational give-and-go between a pair of freshmen that set up the first goal. Megan Utter (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) set up Taylor Goss (Sandy Spring, Md./Friends School) for a free run from the top of the 18, and Goss would make no mistake, giving the Tigers the 1-0 lead at the intermission.

The second half saw a Tiger squad come out playing inspired, and the end result showed the domination in the second stanza. Junior midfielder Rachael Radel (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview) doubled the Tiger advantage in the 56th minute when she scored from long range after a failed Kenyon clearance set her up for her third goal of the year.

Twenty minutes later, senior midfielder Suzanne Medwid (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) put in her third of the campaign, scoring on a free kick from 50 yards out. Kenyon would pull one back moments later before senior forward Corey Shubitowski (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) put the game away by corraling a loose ball atop the box and beating the keeper.

The Tigers moved to 8-2-4 on the year and 3-1-0 in NCAC play as they get set to hit the road Saturday, Oct. 18, for a visit to the Oberlin Yeowomen for a 1 p.m. start.
