Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University women's soccer standouts Suzanne Medwid, class of 2009 from Columbus, Ohio, Jamie Mack, class of 2009 from Rochester, NY, Corey Shubitowski, class of 2009 from Columbus, Ohio, and Emily Murray, class of 2010 from Petoskey, Mich., and men's soccer standouts Jay Knox, class of 2009 from Hilliard, Ohio, and Michael Condon, class of 2010 from Powell, Ohio, have earned Academic All-Ohio honors from the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Coaches Association.

Among the women, Medwid was selected to the first team, while Mack and Shubitowski both made second team and Murray was picked for the third team. For the men, Knox was a second-team selection, while Condon earned a third-team nod. Student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.2 or higher and who participated in at least half of their team's games in 2008 could be considered for Academic All-Ohio honors.

On the heels of the finest season in school history, in which the Wittenberg women posted a record of 18-3-3 and reached the NCAA Division III Tournament Round of 16 in 2007, the Tigers were stellar again in 2008 with marks of 11-4-6 overall and 5-2-1 in the NCAC. Ranked as high as sixth in the nation early in the season, Wittenberg went on to finish second in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season title chase. After winning their third consecutive NCAC Tournament title and advancing to the national tournament, the Tigers were knocked out in the first round by the University of Chicago.

The Wittenberg men finished the 2008 season with records of 16-4-1 overall and 6-3 in the NCAC, good for a second-place tie. After breaking school records for wins in a season and consecutive victories (13), Wittenberg reached its first-ever NCAC Tournament title game, falling in a penalty kick shootout to Ohio Wesleyan, and earned their first NCAA Division III Tournament berth in 12 years. For the fifth time in national tournament play, however, Wittenberg lost a one-goal decision, this time to Carroll (Wisc.) in the first round.
