Tigers Fall to Rival Big Red In Regular Season Finale

GRANVILLE, Ohio - After controlling the recent series between the two North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rivals, Wittenberg finally fell to Denison on the road, 2-1, in the Tigers' regular season finale. The Tigers had taken the last three meetings between the two sides, dating back to 2006, but it was the Big Red who captured a 2008 NCAC regular season crown with the win.

After a scoreless first 45 minutes in which the host team outshot Wittenberg 7-5, it would be Denison's continued pressure that finally broke through the staunch Tiger defense in the 67th minute. A few moments later, the hole grew larger when Denison struck again in the 75th.

It would be freshman Sheryl Chambers (Victorville, Calif./St. Joan of Arc) to the rescue, as she tallied her first collegiate goal just seconds later to pull one back. In the end, however, it would not be enough to rally the visitors, who fell to 5-2-1 in NCAC play.

Senior goalkeeper Jordan Bamberger (Solon, Ohio/Solon) added nine saves to her total on the night. The two-time defending NCAC Tournament champion Tigers will look to turn things around when they begin NCAC postseason play this upcoming week. They will take on the Allegheny Gators on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at Edwards-Maurer Field in the #2 vs. #3 semifinal. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
