Wittenberg Settles For Scoreless Draw With Capital

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - A pair of regional powers played in a playoff atmosphere, with the result between Wittenberg and Capital being a merited 0-0 draw in two overtimes. A couple of opportunities in the second half missed the frame for the Tigers, as they failed to break through against the Crusaders.

In a game where the Tigers outshot the Crusaders 10-5, including 8-3 in the second 45 minutes, Wittenberg saw senior Corey Shubitowski (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) robbed of a sure-goal in the early stages of the second stanza. Capital goalkeeper Linley Vermillion prevented the rebound goal from eight yards away after a Suzanne Medwid (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) fired a shot that ricocheted off of the left post.

Senior defender Jamie Mack (Rochester, NY/Penfield) also got into the act with a couple of headers on corner kicks, one which glanced off the crossbar. Ultimately, however, it was not to be for the Tigers on this night, as they settled for the 0-0 draw.

The defense kept the game scoreless with strong play in the middle defense by sophomore Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) and senior Jamie Mack (Rochester, NY/Penfield) and three saves from senior goalkeeper Jordan Bamberger (Solon, Ohio/Solon).

The Tigers move to 5-1-3 on the season, heading into the final non-conference game of the regular season next Monday, September 29th when the Mount St. Joseph Lions come to Edwards Maurer Field for a 7:00 pm. opening kickoff.
