Back And Forth Battle Leaves Tigers Down

Delaware, OH- The Tigers headed out to Ohio Wesleyan for a second match-up with the Battling Bishops. Wittenberg went into the match-up down 1-0 in the series this season but were able to learn from their first game and hold onto OWU. The Red & White took the lead twice in a heated back-and-fourth battle. Wittenberg played strong but fell in the final minutes with a final score of 9-8.

Wittenberg got things started with a goal from Jessica Flick at 26:07 off of a free position shot, giving Flick her ninth goal of the season. Ohio Wesleyan answered back a couple minutes later and the start of a back-and-fourth game began.

The Tigers were able to hold Ohio Wesleyan offense for eleven minutes before they were able to get on the board again. Flick was able to answer back with her second goal of the game to keep the game tied at 2-2. The Battling Bishops were able to take the lead with a 3-2 score before freshman, Kelly Mamula picked up her first collegiate goal and brought the Red & White back to a tied 3-3 game. Mamula came back in the last 30 seconds of the first half with an assist from Antavia Horne to take Wittenberg into the half up 4-3.

Flick continued her scoring streak to start the second half and gave Wittenberg their fifth goal of the game and the Tigers started to pull ahead. Ohio Wesleyan put two more points on the board before junior, Katurah Emery was able to get through OWU's defense to get her first goal of the game and a 6-5 score. The Battling Bishops answered back with two goals to take the lead by one. Emery was able to respond with one more goal on the night at 17:45 to put the score at 7-7. Ohio Wesleyan continued to come back but Wittenberg was able to keep the game tied with a free position goal from senior, Shannon Brown on a free position attempt and a 8-8 score. Ohio Wesleyan was able to get the last point on the board, leaving the Tigers down with a final score of 9-8.

The Tigers were led by freshman, Jessica Flick with a hat trick, followed by Kelly Mamula and Katurah Emery with two goals each. In goal for the Tigers was senior, Abby Sammons with seven saves on the night. The Tigers led in draw controls on the night with 11 and went 14-22 in clear attempts.  

Up Next: The Tigers will be back in action on April 14th at home against DePauw. Wittenberg will be celebrating Shannon Brown and Abby Sammons in their Senior Day. Only pre-registered spectators will be allowed attendance at the match-up between Wittenberg and DePauw
