Tigers Drop Hard Fought Decision To Battling Bishops

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg returned home for a match-up with the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan. Both teams headed into the game with 0-4 records and were looking for their first win of the 2021 season. Wittenberg will have to wait for their first win after falling to the Battling Bishops with a 14-11 score.

Wittenberg was able to get on the board first with an unassisted goal from sophomore Cecilia Critchfield on a man-up opportunity. OWU was able to get past Tiger defense on three back-to-back goals to take a 3-1 lead but Wittenberg wasn't done fighting. Both teams went back-and-forth for the next six goals. Tiger goals were scored by Grace Kennedy, Antavia Horne, and Jessica Flick. With the three goals scored, the Tigers still trailed 6-4 heading into the half.

Wittenberg came out of the half ready to get on the board and it started with an unassisted goal from Mya Wolfe. Ohio Wesleyan came back with four goals which Grace Kennedy was able to answer with an assist from Wolfe. The Tigers saw the back of the net two more times before the Battling Bishops could answer with goals from Flick who was unassisted and Critchfield from Katie Wadds. Flick picked up a hat-trick at 14:24 from a free position shot to bring the game within two. Wittenberg still trailed 11-9 but were able to stay close with another free position shot from Wadds. Horne put the last point on the board with an unassisted goal but Wittenberg fell with a final score of 14-11.

 

Up Next: Wittenberg will seek redemption on April 9th when they will meet Ohio Wesleyan on the road. The first draw is scheduled for 7 PM.
