Tigers Tumble In Home Match-up

Springfield, OH- The Tigers returned home for another no-conference match-up with the Blue Streaks of John Carroll. After a tough sixty minutes Wittenberg struggled to keep up with the Blue Streaks and fell with a 25-12 score.

Game Breakdown: Senior, Gabby Zysik got the first point on the board unassisted at 29:01 to give Wittenberg a 1-0 lead. After two goals from John Carroll, Faith Meads was able to get past JCU's goalies to tie the game 2-2 on a man up opportunity. Meads came back at 21:12 with another unassisted goal to lessen Wittenberg's deficit to three points. Rachel Bernard hit the Blue Streaks with Tigers next goal from a free position shot to keep the game within two. Wittenberg came back with three unanswered goals at 12:04 with Libby Wadds getting her first of the game from Zysik. Antavia Horne put the next one in the net off of an assist from freshman, Mya Wolfe. The Tigers third unanswered goal came from Bernard with her second goal of the day unassisted. Bernard picked up a hat-trick at 3:53 off of another free position shot to give Wittenberg their eighth point. The Tigers were unable to get around John Carroll's goalie until the second half and went into halftime down 14-8.

Wittenberg got their first goal of the second half at 23:00 with an unassisted goal from Sophie Weintraub. The Tigers were able to put three more on the board in the second half with goals from Zysik and WaddsZysik got Wittenberg's third free position goal at 13:16 and tabbed a hat-trick at 5:04 with an assist from MeadsLibby Wadds put up her second goal unassisted at 7:51. The Tigers were 16 for 20 on clears and picked up 18 draw controls but were unable to keep up in goals with JCU who took the win with a 25-12 score.

Key Players: Tigers were led by senior co-captains Bernard and Zysik who each put up a hat-trick on the day. Libby Wadds had herself a day on draw control, picking up 13 of the Tigers 18. In goal for Wittenberg was junior Abby Sammons with ten saves.

Up Next: Wittenberg will be back home on Monday February 2nd to take on Adrian. The non-conference match-up will start at 5 PM.
