Wittenberg Women's Lacrosse Soars Past OWU 12-4

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Tiger women's lacrosse moved over the .500 mark in NCAC play on Saturday, with a 12-4 drubbing of the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops. Now at 3-2 in the NCAC, the Tigers tournament hopes remain very much alive as the team sits at 9-3 overall in 2016. For the second straight game, Olivia Lash (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) recorded five goals for the Tigers, as the senior has netted ten goals this week.

 

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • Wittenberg carried a 6-3 lead into halftime, as Victoria Zysik (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and Carrie Kubasta (Medina, Ohio/Medina) netted back-to-back goals to open up the Tiger scoring.  
  • Lash would chip in two goals in the first half as well, while Kubasta and freshman Madelie Stock (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) would be credited for the fifth and sixth goals of the half.  
  • Becca Joseph (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) dished out two key assists in the first-half, as the Tigers took a three goal lead into the break.
  • Out of the gates in the second half, OWU would net the opening goal, but it was the Tigers who locked down on defense and amped up the offense to rattle off six unanswered goals in 24 minutes of regulation time.
  • Lash picked up her last three goals in this time, while Emily Wadds (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming) netted two, and Haley Schroeder (Granville, Ohio/Granville) chipped in one.
  • The Tigers defense was the story of the second half, as OWU only netted one second half goal, allowing the Tigers to win 12-4.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Katie Reuter (Cleveland, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) notched 11 saves between the pipes for Wittenberg, as the senior played all 60 minutes in the victory.
  • The Tigers played a much cleaner game than OWU, as the visiting team committed nearly 30 fouls in the NCAC matchup.
  • The Tigers were dominant in draw controls on Saturday, controlling 16 to OWU's two.

KEY STATS

  • While Joseph did not find the back of the next on any of her three shots in the win, the attacker did manage to facilitate four assists on the day.
  • Wittenberg picked up 18 ground balls compared to OWU's 15.
  • The Tigers managed to create there own scoring opportunities early and often, recording 35 shots in the game.
