Women's Lacrosse Improves to 7-1 with Win Over Capital, 12-10

BEXLEY, Ohio—Wittenberg women's lacrosse kept their season headed in the right direction on Wednesday night, as the team traveled to Bexley to take on the Capital Crusaders of the OAC. When it was all said and done, the team returned to Springfield with a 12-10 victory and a 7-1 record on the season. The Tigers were paced by Olivia Lash (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) and Emily Wadds (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming) who combined for nine goals in the win. The hard-fought victory comes in out of conference action for the Tigers, as a full slate of NCAC games awaits the team in the upcoming weeks.

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • The first half looked to be deadlocked for both teams, as the Tigers fought back from a 4-2 deficit to tie things up at 4-4 on a Wadds goal with two-seconds remaining in the half.
  • Wittenberg jumped out to a fast start in the second half behind a pair of Victoria Zysik (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) goals that gave the visiting Tigers a 6-4 lead.
  • One of Lash's four goals put Wittenberg up 10-7 with 11:28 remaining, as the senior was able to find room to operate in the teeth of the Crusaders defense.
  • Capital managed to come within two goals of the Tigers, but Wadds' fifth goal of the game after a Crusader penalty put the Tigers up 12-9.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Tigers forced Capital into 27 turnovers in the out of conference victory, while only committing 19 turnovers.
  • The free position shot war was also won by the Tigers, as they were able to capitalize on three of seven opportunities.
  • As a team, Wittenberg proved to be the aggressor all night, producing 31 shots and picking up 22 ground balls.

KEY STATS

  • Lash's four goal night was complimenting by her ability to facilitate to her teammates, as the senior also dished out two assists in the winning efforts.
  • Carrie Kubasta (Medina, Ohio/Medina) and Katie Reuter (Cleveland, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) each picked up four ground balls for the Tigers in the 12-10 victory.
  • Reuter improves to 7-1 in net for Wittenberg, as the senior goalie made eight saves Wednesday night.
