Lash's Last Second Goal Lifts Tigers Over Lords, 13-12

GAMBIER, Ohio—The Tigers women's lacrosse team opened up NCAC play with Kenyon on Saturday afternoon, and it was the visiting Tigers that returned home with a 13-12 victory. With the game knotted up at 12, senior Olivia Lash (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) found her way to the net to score the game winning goal with only 29 seconds remaining in regulation. Lash's game winner was her second goal of the day as the senior had eight shots on goal in the game. Wittenberg played clean and took care of the ball all game to earn the hard-fought victory. The road NCAC victory moves the Tigers to 6-1 on the season and 1-0 in NCAC play.

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • Wittenberg battled back and forth in the first 30 minutes of the game, as the teams broke for halftime with the score knotted at 7-7.
  • Becca Joseph (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) netted two of her five goals in the first half, as the junior recorded a hat-trick in the second half.
  • In the second half, the game was tied up at 10-10, 11-11, and 12-12 with the Tigers going up one goal each time.
  • Joseph broke the 10-10 tie and the 11-11 tie, while Lash put the finishing touches on the game, breaking the 12-12 tie with just seconds remaining.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Tigers forced Kenyon into 20 turnovers in the game, while Wittenberg only committed 15.
  • Kenyon won the ground ball category on the day over Wittenberg, 19-15, but the Tigers managed to get off 39 shots compared to Kenyon's 25.

KEY STATS

  • Six different Tigers scored goals in the victory, coming off of six assists from five different Tigers.
  • Carrie Kubasta (Medina, Ohio/Medina) caused three turnovers for the Tigers in the game, which lead the team.

  • "I am proud of the way our team handled being down a majority of the game and the way we were able to finish the game with a win…We are a young team and have a lot more growing to do-this game really helped us see that. As we look ahead, we travel to Capital for a midweek game which will really help us prepare for our NCAC rival Denison next weekend," said Coach St. Pierre.
