SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team finished off a masterpiece of a regular season with a 9-2 win over Oberlin Saturday at Edwards-Maurer Field, improving to 6-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and securing their first No. 1 seed in the NCAC Tournament.

As a result of the program's only perfect NCAC regular season, the Tigers will host an NCAC Tournament game for the first time ever, a semifinal matchup with fourth-seeded Allegheny on Thursday, May 3, at 3 p.m.

The final conference standings are determined by the tournament, so to hold on to their top spot, the Tigers will have to win two games, but have the advantage of hosting both. Should Wittenberg advance, the championship game will be played on Saturday, May 5th, at 5 p.m. at Edwards-Maurer Field.

Wittenberg, now 11-4 overall, closed out the 6-0 NCAC slate with a strong start against Oberlin, scoring five unanswered goals in the first half. Oberlin scratched the board in the second half, but the Tigers put up four of their own to make up the final margin.

The team's leading scorer, sophomore Alie Marousek (Pittsburgh, Pa./Portsmouth (NH)) started things off with a goal just 49 seconds into the match. She would add the first goal of the second half to finish with two goals in the game.

Junior Erin Guiliano (Loveland, Ohio/Kings) scored the next two goals of the first half, and with one goal in the second half would finish as the game's leading scorer. Senior Jennifer Close (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), junior Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill), sophomore Caroline Eldridge (Amelia, Ohio/McNicholas) and senior Lindsey Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School For Girls) each scored one goal in the game.

Sophomore Francine Murzynski (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) was held scoreless in the game but led in the points column with four assists, adding three ground balls and three draw controls to the mix.

Ensuring the victory was junior Katie Bondy (Westerville, Ohio/South), who stopped seven of Oberlin's nine shots on goal.
