SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — In a driving rainstorm, the Wittenberg women's lacrosse team cruised past visiting St. Vincent, pouring in a season-high-tying 18 goals in a game that was shortened by nearly 10 minutes due to lightning.

The win was Wittenberg's fifth in the last six games following a 2-3 start to the 2012 season. St. Vincent dropped to 4-4, while the Tigers are now 7-4.

The high-scoring Tigers have reached double figures in goals in 10 of their 11 games. The 18-goal barrage matched their season-high established on March 11 in an 18-3 victory at Mount St. Joseph.

Through the first 20 minutes, the Tigers led just 5-3. However, Wittenberg scored the last six goals of the first half to open an 11-3 bulge by halftime. After Wittenberg scored a goal in the opening seconds of the second half, the game was delayed 42 minutes by lightning. When play resumed, the Tigers kept up the pressure, banging home six more goals before lightning was seen again, this time ending the proceedings.

A whopping 13 different Tigers scored a goal in the game, led by junior Erin Guiliano (Loveland, Ohio/Kings) with four. Seven different players contributed an assist, led by sophomore Alie Marousek (Pittsburgh, Pa./Portsmouth (NH)) with three.

Sophomore Jessica Jensen (Hartland, Wisc./Arrowhead) started in goal and made one save over the opening 20 minutes to pick up the win. Junior Katie Bondy (Westerville, Ohio/South) added four saves in the second half in relief.

Also of note, Guiliano led both teams with four ground balls, while junior Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) was tops with four draw controls. Sophomore Francine Murzynski (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) also finished with a tremendous stats line, adding two goals, two assists, three ground balls and three draw controls to the cause.
