Tigers Back In Win Column 18-3 Over Albion

ALBION, Mich. — A five-hour bus ride and near-freezing temperatures failed to stop the Wittenberg women's lacrosse team from moving to 4-1 overall with an 18-3 defeat of Albion on Wednesday.

The Tigers went up 8-3 in the first half due in large part to a pair of back-to-back goals, first by senior Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) and then by seniorJordan Beauchamp (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern). Beauchamp scored two other goals in the opening period to push her season total to a team-leading 14.

Beauchamp has scored all of her goals on a total of 19 shots, giving her a shot percentage of .737 through five games.

In the second half it was all Tigers, as Wittenberg scored 10 unanswered goals, led by three from sophomore Erin Guiliano (Loveland, Ohio/Kings). Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Bondy (Westerville, Ohio/South) occupied the net in the second period, stopping all four shots she faced.

Junior Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) played the first 30 minutes in goal, stopping three shots in all.

Guiliano also scored the Tigers' first goal of the game to finish tied with Beauchamp for the team lead of four, while Amorello and freshman Francine Murzynski (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) each finished with two. Guiliano and Amorello each tallied one assist.

Six additional Tigers scored one goal each, including junior Jenn Close (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), sophomore Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill), sophomore Katie Warner (Delaware, Ohio/Olentangy), freshman Nicolette Lyons (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), freshman Torrey Williams (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) and junior Krissy Battles (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood).

Junior Lindsey Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School For Girls) earned three assists to lead the category. Battles notched two assists, while Close, Amorello, Morrissey, Guiliano and junior Jessica Mead (Columbus, Ohio/The Wellington School) each helped out on one goal.
