Tigers Honor Seniors With Win Over Bishops

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team honored their two seniors, Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) and Jordan Beauchamp (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) in style with a 20-10 win over Ohio Wesleyan Wednesday night.

 

The Tigers improved to 7-3 on the season and 2-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with the win and sent Ohio Wesleyan to 3-10 overall and 1-4 in the NCAC.

The Tigers took control early and by halftime led 12-5 behind three hat tricks, including the two senior honorees as well as freshman Francine Murzynski (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic). Amorello amassed an impressive four assists in the first half alone.

Amorello and Murzynski completed their scoring in the first period, but Beauchamp tacked on two more to finish the night with a team-best five goals.

Junior Jenn Close (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), sophomore Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) and sophomore Erin Guiliano (Loveland, Ohio/Kings) each scored once in both halves.

Junior Lindsey Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School For Girls), freshman Nicolette Lyons (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and junior Krissy Battles (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) each scored once to round out the scoring column. Hanners and Morrissey each added two assists to the mix.

In goal, junior starter Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) and sophomore Katie Bondy (Westerville, Ohio/South) combined for 13 saves, Schaafsma with seven in the first half and Bondy with six in the second.

The Tigers had only beaten Ohio Wesleyan once in the last 10 years, the most recent victory coming in 2009 with a 14-13 overtime thriller.

The Tigers hit the road for their next game, a 7 p.m. matchup with St. Vincent on Saturday, April 16.

Maggie Amorello
An attacker majoring in history from Sutton, Mass., and daughter of Peter and Nancy Amorello, Maggie has been a constant presence on the Wittenberg attack for four years. She enters tonight's game ranked 10th in career draw controls with 92, 12th in assists with 25 and 16th in goals scored with 78. As a team captain this year, Maggie has set a fine example with three all-conference designations and was named co-MVP in 2008. Her athletic accomplishments also extend to women's soccer, where she was twice the NCAC Defensive Player of the Year and this year was named Second Team All-America, on top of two-year all-region and four-year all-conference honors. She also embarked on a community service trip to the African kingdom of Lesotho in the summer of 2009.

Jordan Beauchamp
A midfielder and attacker majoring in biology from Noblesville, Ind., and daughter of Lisa Carnes, Jordan has made her mark in four standout years for the Tigers. Entering tonight's game, Jordan ranks 15th in program history with 83 career goals, and has hit the game winner five times. A two-year team captain, Jordan was named Second Team All-NCAC in 2009, a season in which she was also named NCAC Player of the Week for leading the Tigers to the team's first win over Denison in 20 years with three goals. She is a member of Sigma Kappa sorority and served Wittenberg's Greek Life as a Rho Gamma recruitment facilitator for two years. She is a member of Pre-Health Club and the Chi Alpha Sigma and Gamma Sigma Alpha honoraries.
