No Trouble Topping Oberlin For Tigers

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team had no trouble in dispatching with visiting Oberlin Saturday, winning by a final score of 20-7 to move to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference competition.

The Tigers took a 15-4 lead by halftime thanks to seven unanswered goals heading into the break. They scored the first five goals of the second half to bring the run to 12 straight goals and break open what had been a 7-5 game with 8:40 left in the first half.

Leading the charge for Wittenberg were senior midfielder Joelle Ghanem (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and sophomore attacker Jenn Close (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) with four goals each to pace the team. Ghanem also tallied two assists and Close added one.

After playing in her first game of the season just two days prior, junior midfielderJordan Beauchamp (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) already appeared to be in midseason form following her return from an injury. She scored three times in the game, joined by sophomore attacker Lindsay Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School For Girls) and freshman midfielder Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill), who each notched three goals as well.

Morrissey led the team in draw controls, followed by Ghanem and Close who each tallied three. Morrissey also split the team lead in ground balls with Ghanem, as each picked up three.

Senior Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School) spent the first half in goal and allowed five goals against five saves on her way to the win, while freshmanKatie Bondy (Westerville, Ohio/South) was her second-half relief and allowed two goals against three saves.
