Tigers Fall to Gators in Road NCAC Bout

MEADVILLE, Pa. - Looking for a weekend sweep of Pennsylvania, the Wittenberg Tiger women could not keep up their torrid goal-scoring pace in a 17-9 loss to conference rival Allegheny. A quick start for the Red & White was washed away with seven unanswered goals for the home-standing Gators en route to the eight-goal margin.

Sophomore Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) highlighted a bright start for the visitors as Wittenberg held leads at 2-1, 4-3 and 5-4. However, the road-weariness perhaps caught up with the Tigers as Allegheny exploded in a late-first half run to put the game out of reach.

Senior Cait Mather (Mason, Ohio/Mason) tried to help buoy Tiger hopes with four ground balls, but a 36-19 shot differential was too much to overcome.

Wittenberg dropped to 5-3 and 1-1 in the NCAC with a pivotal meeting upcoming on Wednesday, April 15 at 4 p.m. from Edwards-Maurer Field when the Denison Big Red come to Springfield.
