Tigers Nip Bulldogs in Overtime Thriller

ADRIAN, Mich.- Wittenberg's women's lacrosse team made the wait for their season opener worth it with a furious comeback rally to beat Adrian College 16-14 in double overtime. Senior Cait Mather (Mason, Ohio/Mason) brought the Tigers level in regulation with a goal with one tick left on the clock before providing the game-winning goal with just over two minutes left in double overtime.

Four goals in the final 5:54 of the second half, including one of five Lizzie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy)markers on the day brought the Tigers back from a seemingly insurmountable deficit.

Sophomore Jordan Beauchamp (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) had a hand in the comeback with a hat trick of her own. In spite of even shots, 13-13 in the second stanza, Wittenberg outscored Adrian 8-4 to force the extra sessions.

Goalkeeper Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) got the call in goal in the second half and picked up her first collegiate victory. The Tigers look to continue their momentum into a meeting on Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. from Edwards-Maurer Field when they face Washington and Jefferson.
