Wittenberg Drops NCAC Regular Season Finale to Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio - Heading into the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament for just the second time in program history, the Wittenberg Tigers now have a profile on the top team in the conference after a 18-9 loss at the hands of Wooster in the conference regular season finale. Another early deficit, Wittenberg trailed 8-3 with in the first 25 minutes, cost Head Coach Kati Robbins' squad an opportunity to pull off another NCAC upset.

The Tigers ran off a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes from sisters Lizzie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) and Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) to claim a 2-1 lead. From there, the Scots scored seven of the next eight to seize control of the game.

Three quick goals in the second half brought the Tigers within 13-8, but they could come no closer the rest of the way. Freshman Jenn Close (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) added a marker on the day as Wittenberg fell to 3-3 in NCAC play.

The day was not lost, however, as the Tigers received help from Denison, which defeated Allegheny to allow Wittenberg to advance to the NCAC Tournament for the first time since 2003. The Tigers will enter as the No. 3 seed when the tournament begins Friday May 1 at Wooster. Before the festivities begin, the Red & White have one more match, coming this Sunday, April 26 at 2 p.m. at Notre Dame (OH).
