10-Goal Tiger Effort Falls Short In Conference Opener Against Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio - The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team began league play tonight by unbeaten Kenyon College. The Ladies continued their perfect season as they defeated the Tigers 10-15.

The Tigers dropped to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Kenyon improved to 5-0 on the year and 1-0 in league play.

The Ladies jumped out on top quick as they scored seven unanswered goals in the first half. The Tigers responded in the second half, showing great resilience by scoring a total of 10 goals. However, the Tigers could never overtake the Ladies, who scored eight second-half goals of their own to hold on for the win.

Offensively, junior Lizzie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) led Wittenberg with four goals, while junior Cait Mather (Mason, Ohio/Mason) and freshman Lisa Blahut (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) both contributed three goals apiece.

Tiger goalkeeper Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School) registered 10 saves on the night, while junior defender Beth Vonderbrink (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) recorded a game-high seven draw controls.

The Tigers next host league rival Wooster at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5.
