Wittenberg Tops Alfred To End Season On High Note

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Wittenberg Tigers ended the 2007 season just as they started it, with a victory on a neutral field. In between, unfortunately, the Tigers lost 11 of their other 12 games, but that did little to diminish the positive vibes generated from a season-ending 8-6 win over Alfred University.

The Tigers ended the season with a 3-11 overall record, while Alfred dropped to 1-10 on the campaign.

Perhaps most encouraging was the fact that the Tigers were forced to rally in this game, scoring the last three goals in the game's final 10 minutes. Sophomore Lizzie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) scored the last two goals, giving her four in the game.

Senior Michelle Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) added two goals and senior Melissa Jackson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and freshman Joelle Ghanem (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) added one each. Ghanem and juniorAmber Cupples (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) had assists for the Tigers, who outshot Alfred 41-24 in the game.

Defensively, the Tigers picked up 14 saves from freshman goalkeeper Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School).
