Wittenberg Falls In Hard-Fought Battle With Widener

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A promising Spring Break trip came to a disappointing end Thursday when the Wittenberg Tigers dropped a hard-fought 11-9 decision to Widener.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Kati Robbins said she felt good about the trip and optimistic about her team's prospects for the rest of the season. The Tigers take a 1-2 record back to Ohio, heading into a week off before a road trip to Notre Dame College (OH) on March 17.

The Tigers had their chances in this one as they outshot Widener 25-17. But five of those Wittenberg shots clanged off the goal cage, opening the door for a second-half rally for the victors.

Sophomore Cait Mather (Mason, Ohio/Mason) enjoyed her most productive game as a collegian as she led the Tiger offense with three goals and one assist. She scored three of the Tigers' last four goals in the game.

Sophomore Hannah Cupples (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) scored Wittenberg's first two goals, and she added an assist on the third goal, scored by sophomore Megan Meige (Columbus, Ohio/DeSales). Meige added two assists later in the game.

The Wittenberg goalkeeping tandem of junior Sarah Zane (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) and freshman Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School) finished with five saves in the game.
