Wittenberg Opens Season With Big Win Over Salve Regina

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Wittenberg Tigers opened the 2007 season with a resounding 17-3 win over Salve Regina in a Spring Break trip game played in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The win was the first in the coaching career of Tiger skipper Kati Robbins, and it got a promising new season off on a positive note. The Tigers will play a total of three games in Florida on a whirlwind Spring Break trip.

Wittenberg scored less than one minute into the game and never looked back. By halftime the Tigers held a 13-3 lead and they cruised from that point with a shutout in the second half.

The Tigers picked up five goals and an assist from senior Melissa Jackson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), the team's leading scorer a year ago. Junior Amber Cupples (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) added two goals and three assists - a year after she paced the Tigers in the latter category.

Rounding things out, sophomore Hannah Cupples (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) made her debut in the Red & White an impressive one with two goals and two assists, while senior Michelle Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) contributed two goals and one assist. Also of note was the play of sophomore Megan Meige (Columbus, Ohio/DeSales), who led both teams with four assists to go along with one goal.
