Tigers Make It Three In A Row With Win Over Notre Dame College

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers put together another outstanding performance Saturday, putting the wraps on a rollercoaster ride of a non-conference schedule with a convincing 19-7 win over visiting Notre Dame College (OH).

The win was Wittenberg's third in a row - all at home - following an 0-5 start to the 2006 season. The Tigers now have a week off to prepare for the North Coast Athletic Conference schedule, which begins at home against Allegheny at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 8.

The Tigers jumped out to a commanding 6-0 lead through the first 15 minutes of Saturday's contest and never looked back. Freshman goalkeeper Melissa Sedziol made her third straight start in goal another winning one, coming up with eight saves in the first half and 12 for the game overall. Buoyed by confidence in their new netminder, a converted midfielder, the Tigers continue to play with confidence and have shown an improved ability to transition the ball from end to end.

Offensively, the main storyline was provided by freshman Lizzie Amorello, who scored a career-high five goals. She added two assists for seven total points. Those figures were nearly matched by sophomore Amber Cupples, who enjoyed her finest performance of the season with three goals and four assists for seven total points.

Junior Michelle Hanners added three goals, junior Melissa Jackson - the team's leading scorer in six of their first seven games - chipped in with two scores, senior Emily Hiscar was solid with a goal and two assists, junior Kari Thomas had a goal and an assist, freshman Katie Radeackar finished with two goals, freshman Cait Mather had her best game yet in the Red & White with a goal and three assists, and freshman Megan Meige rounded things out with a second-half score.
