Wittenberg Wraps Up Spring Break Trip With Win Over Gordon

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Wittenberg Tigers found a way to get it done. After a tough Spring Break trip that was devoted to a rigorous training regimen, the Tigers made it two wins in three games with a 12-6 victory over Gordon. The win gave Wittenberg as many victories as it had in the entire 2004 season.

Head Coach Katherine Haney said she was pleased with the way her team responded to the challenge after two games early in the week and several draining practice sessions leading up to Friday's encounter. The Tigers took a 6-2 lead into the halftime break and then finished up strong with six more goals in the second half.

Sophomore Michelle Hanners and senior Jenny Burns each found the back of the net three times in the game, while sophomores Melissa Jackson and Kari Thomas added a pair of scores each. Freshmen Amber Cupples and Emine Cirpili also scored goals to round things out. Junior Emily Hiscar finished with two assists to lead the Tigers in that area, while sophomore Carly Mayer, Thomas and Burns also had helpers.

In goal, sophomore Clare Bucheit was solid with six saves and freshman Sarah Zane added one save in her first collegiate experience as she played the final 3:39 of the game. Wittenberg outshot Gordon 30-18 in the win.
