2002 Season Outlook

The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team begins the 2002 season after celebrating the 30th anniversary of the program during the fall season. The young squad is determined to carry on the legacy of the team's many alumni. Last season was successful with a 9-7 record, five All-North Coast Athletic Conference selections and three Brine/IWLCA Regional All-Americans. Kati Robbins was selected as NCAC Offensive Player of the Year and set school records for career points and assists.

Leadership on the field in 2002 will come from a talented group of upperclassmen, and key performances are expected from several newcomers. Most notably, second-leading scorer and 2001 first-team All-NCAC performer Cara Romanowski (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) figures to get even more opportunities after finding the back of the net a team-best 47 times in 2001. She is a defensive player who moves on attack to provide another scoring threat. She will be joined by several potent offensive players, including junior Mollie Stone (Damascus, Md./Damascus), who had 13 points in 2001, senior Erin Jacobsen (Fairport, N.Y./Penfield), who scored 29 goals and two assists as a sophomore, and sophomore Kate Williston (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster), who was fourth on the team in 2001 with 11 goals and 14 points, and senior Juliette Gordon (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington), an experienced four-year letterwinner and member of Phil Beta Kappa.

On defense, Wittenberg must replace graduated standout Danielle Paglino, the school record-holder for career caused turnovers. Top returners include Lindsay Law (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Scioto), the only player to play every minute of every game in 2001, and sophomore Katie Babcock (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney).

In goal this season, third-team All-American field hockey player Rebecca Russ (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) will try her hand at lacrosse for the first time.
