GRANVILLE, Ohio - After an historic run to the brink of a national championship in their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament, the Wittenberg Tigers picked up right where they left off with a first-place finish in Denison's Lynn Schweizer Invitational to open the 2015-16 season.

Wittenberg posted a two-day total of 619 to take the top spot by 10 strokes over Bridgewater. Third-place Denison finished with a 686 to lead the rest of the 16 teams in the field.

The Tigers carded a Day 1 score of 305 to lead the tournament by 14 strokes. Bridgewater closed the gap in the second round with a low score of 310, but it wasn't enough to overcome Wittenberg's lead.

Individually, Wittenberg was paced by sophomore Jane Hopkinson-Wood (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School), who turned in scores of even-par 72 and 75 to place second in the tournament, three strokes behind Christina Herbert of Bridgewater. Junior Macy Hubbard (Mason, Ohio/Mason) tied for third place after rounds of 74 and 79.

Senior Maggie Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) was next for Wittenberg in fifth place with a two-round total of 157. Rounding things out for the Tigers were freshman Chloe Bradburn (Gahanna, Ohio/Columbus Academy) in seventh with a 162 and senior Allie Lawwill (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown) in 16th with a 171.

The 2015-16 season continues with a trip to northern Indiana next weekend for the St. Mary's O'Brien Invitational.
