Springfield, Ohio – For the second straight year, Wittenberg University’s women’s golf team ranks as one of the top 25 teams in terms of highest cumulative team grade point average. According to a news release from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), the Tigers ranked 20th across all NCAA divisions and first among Division III programs with a 3.672 GPA for the 2014-15 school year.

The University of New Mexico ranked first with a 3.799 grade point average. Wittenberg was the only NCAA Division III program in the top 25.

“The women in the Wittenberg golf program have embraced a model of excellence, and that is why they share such impressive company on this list again this year,” said Head Coach Jeff Roope. “They have committed themselves to not just go to class and play golf but to strive to be the best. I’m proud to work with such a dedicated and talented group of young women, and I continue to be impressed by their performance both athletically and academically.”

Previously, junior Allie Lawwill (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown), seniors Nicole Waers (Canton, Ohio/Perry) and Carolyn Wong (Naperville, Ill./Central) and sophomore Macy Hubbard (Mason, Ohio/Mason) were honored by the WGCA with All-American Scholar awards. They were among 758 women’s collegiate golfers across all three NCAA divisions to earn the prestigious honor in 2015. To make the list, a player must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and play in a minimum of 12 competitive rounds.

Seven of the nine members of the Wittenberg women’s golf team in the 2014-15 season made the Dean’s List following the spring semester.

The 2014-15 season was by far the best in the program’s 12-year history, culminating in a run to second place in the final NCAA Division III Tournament standings in the Tigers’ first-ever appearance on a national stage. Wittenberg finished first in eight of its 11 regular season tournaments in the 2014-15 season, including in wins in three straight competitions to close the campaign. The last two tournament victories combined to give the Tigers the NCAC Championship Series title by a stunning 71 strokes over runner-up DePauw.
