Tigers Break Individual, Team Records At Northern Kentucky

PERRY PARK, Ky. — The Wittenberg women's golf team hit the greens swinging this weekend, posting their best one-round score in the individual category and the best team one-round and two-round scores in program history to finish an impressive 14th at the Northern Kentucky Spring Fling.Playing on the course at Perry Park, the Tigers shot a 322 in the first round, the team's best score in program history, 10 strokes better than their 332 set at Ferris State earlier this season. The first round also saw sophomore Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) break her own record to set the team's best individual one-round score after she carded a 75.

Busam now owns three of the program's top four individual one-round scores, having set the previous mark of 78 at the same Wittenberg Spring Invitational in which the team record fell. Busam finished 16 over par at 160 to finish in a tie for 32nd.

The Tigers' top 10 individual and team one-round scores in program history have all been set in the last three seasons, all since Head Coach Jeff Roope took the reins. The team's two-day total of 668 also represents the best two-round score in team history.

Wittenberg's 14th-place finish came in a field loaded with 130 individuals from 21 NCAA Division II and III schools. The team finished ahead of Division III power Washington University (St. Louis) and numerous Division II programs.

Behind Busam, freshman Meghann Greene (North Royalton, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) turned in a 164 two-round score on the strength of a day-one 78 for 42nd place, and sophomore Nicole Momsen (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula) was consistent with an 84 and 86 for a total of 170 to finish 64th.

The Tigers take their spring momentum to DePauw University's Spring Invitational at Twin Bridges Golf Club in Danville, Ind., on Saturday, April 10, and Sunday, April 11. One week later, they play on their home course of Windy Knoll for the first time this spring as Wittenberg hosts the North Coast Athletic Conference's Preview Weekend on Saturday, April 17, and Sunday, April 18. The NCAC is preparing to add women's golf as a sponsored varsity sport for the first time during the 2010-11 season.
