The Wittenberg University women’s basketball program and head coach Melissa Kolbe have announced the addition of Sam MacKay as the newest assistant coach.

“I am excited to introduce Samantha MacKay as the newest addition to our Women’s Basketball staff.  From her winning championships during her playing days at the University of Dayton to her extensive experience playing professionally in some of the top leagues in Europe, Sam brings a phenomenal pedigree to this program,” says head coach Melissa Kolbe. “She is a relationship builder and will be a great mentor for my players.  Please join me in welcoming Sam to our Wittenberg Family!”

MacKay recently finished her professional career, spanning nine seasons in Hungary, France, Estonia, Greece, Slovakia, and Portugal, as well as the WNBA training camp, Euroleague, and Euro Cup.

In four seasons at Dayton from 2009-13, MacKay appeared in 115 games and earned Third Team All-Atlantic 10 honors as a senior. She ranks fifth all-time in program history in assist-to-turnover ratio, 15th in total assists. MacKay graduated in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. A native of Dublin, Ohio, she was a McDonald’s All-America nominee coming out of Dublin Coffman High School.

“I am very excited to join the Wittenberg Women’s Basketball Program.  I look forward to continuing to build on its successful tradition and can’t wait to get to work winning Championships,” says MacKay. “I would like to thank Melissa Kolbe, Vice President & Director of Athletics Brian Agler, and President Frandsen for this opportunity.  Tiger Up!”
