Hot-Shooting DePauw Races Past Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's basketball team was overwhelmed by 60 percent shooting by sixth-ranked DePauw in a 90-53 victory.

The loss leveled Wittenberg's overall record at 8-8, including a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) mark of 4-4. DePauw, which was playing Wittenberg for the first time as an NCAC member, improved to 16-1 overall and 9-0 in the conference.

Leading 9-7 in the early going, DePauw put together a 14-2 run over a six-minute span to take control of the game. After a three-pointer by sophomore Amber Rice (Springfield, Ohio/Southeastern) at the 4:20 mark of the first half, the visiting Tigers put the game out of reach with a 12-0 burst to end the half leading 47-21.

The host Tigers were unable to get closer than 22 points in the second half.

DePauw shot 60 percent from the field, including an efficient 7-of-14 performance from three-point range. Alex Gasaway dropped 28 points on 13-of-15 shooting to lead all scorers.

Wittenberg shot 36 percent from the floor, including 4-of-20 from long distance. DePauw, which is beating teams by an average of 20 points per game this season, won the rebounding battle by a whopping 42-22 margin.

Individually, Wittenberg put three players in double figures, led by freshman Katelyn Haralamos (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) with 17 points and three assists. Freshman Enri Small (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus School For Girls) added 13 points and four steals, while senior Sarah Watson (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) checked in with 10 points and two blocked shots.
