Tiger Softball Splits NCAC Series At Ohio Wesleyan

Delaware, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Softball team split their NCAC road series with the Battling Bishops from Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday evening. Wittenberg took game one, 4-3, using a four-run seventh inning rally. The Tigers would fall in the final game at OWU, as the Battling Bishops scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the 6-5 win.

Wittenberg out-hit the Battling Bishops in both games 10-9. Samantha Zungri swung the hot bat for the Tigers, with a pair of hits in game one before adding a 3 for 4 effort in the second game along, including a triple with two RBI.

It was a stalemate through the first four innings of game one before Ohio Wesleyan pushed their first run across on the Wittenberg fielding miscue. The Battling Bishops added two more in the sixth inning, before the Wittenberg offense was ignited. Ashlyn Stamper started the Tiger rally with a single to center, putting Wittenberg on the board. Hannah Weymouth reached on the fielde's choice later in the inning, cutting the Bishops lead down, 3-2. Julia Burch brought the game back to even at 3-3 with a single to the left side, scoring Zungri. Kayla Drake put Wittenberg on top for the first time in the game with a shot down the line in right, giving the Tigers the 4-3 advantage.

Julia Hall picked up her third win of the season, with 6.1 innings pitched with eight hits allowed and one strikeout. Lilly James secured the save with three batters faced and one hit allowed, striking one out.

OWU was the first to strike in the second contest, scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning. Meghan McCans and Diana Quevedo each added a pair of hits in the second game. Quevedo posted an RBI double to left to get the scoring started in the third inning. Wittenberg would regain the lead in the third inning, 3-1, with back-to-back singles from Audrey Robinson followed by Zungri. Wittenberg added to their advantage in the fifth with another single by Zungri, followed by a bunt single from McCans.

Ohio Wesleyan would spark a rally of their own, chipping away at the Tiger lead, scoring three in the fifth inning before adding their final two with one each in the sixth and seventh.
