Tigers Split NCAC Opener With Hiram

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Softball team split their North Coast Athletic Conference opener with Terriers from Hiram College.

Wittenberg took game one from Hiram, 7-6, to get the day started. Hiram found their offense midway through game two, defeating the Tigers, 9-1.

Wittenberg started the day posting 12 hits to the Terriers' 11. Julia Burch, Hanna Ecker and Samantha Zungri each tallied multiple hits in the series opener.

Wittenberg started game one out fast, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Burch was the first to cross home, capitalizing on the Hiram wild pitch. Zungri followed-up with her first hit of the day, singling up the middle to score Lilly James.

Hiram got on the board in game one with a three run in the top of the third. Wittenberg was able to regain the lead in the bottom half of the inning, starting with a bunt single by Zungri to score Audrey Robinson. Pinch-hitter Ashlynn Stamper put Wittenberg back on top with a single to left, scoring Ecker for the fourth Wittenberg run.

Hiram regained the lead, scoring one in the fourth and two in the fifth, making it a 6-4 ballgame. Wittenberg sealed their first NCAC win of the season with three runs in the fifth inning. Briana Busic singled up the middle advancing on the error by the Terriers, driving in two Tiger runs to knot the game up at 6-6. Burch executed the sacrifice bunt, bringing home Busic for the seventh Wittenberg run.

Kira van Ravensberg picked up her third win of the season, putting in 2.1 innings of work, allowing one hit and striking out one.
